What are your favorite things about teaching yoga?

I like the exploration of the asana that day, AND the fact that it changes day to day. There are some things that are easy to do one day and then feels impossible the next...I like to teach into that, because thats how a practice becomes sustainable.

How do you practice self-care?

I take a lot of me time. I'm an extroverted introvert, so I know I'm no good to anyone it I don't recharge. I used to put a lot of pressure on how I used time. Now if I feel anxious about taking a longer than normal nap or reading an extra chapter of a book, I tell myself, I always have time for me. Mantra and affirmations are a big part of my meditation practice. As well as self love, I will draw a luxurious bath at least once a week, just to let the week go down the drain.

How does one practice activism both on and off the mat?

That interesting, I think you practice on and off the mat if that was an existing part of your life. My activism began when I was 10ish going to marches with family and friends, long before I ever stepped onto a yoga mat. For me once I began my yoga journey, the activism never went away. I see deeper connection through re-reading the sutras and truly exploring the yamas and niyamas in my own life. When I'm clear on how I live it, it just follows me to my mat.

What is your favorite mantra that gets you through a tough time?

Om Bhur Bhuvaḥ Swaḥ

Tat-savitur Vareñyaṃ

Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi

Dhiyo Yonaḥ Prachodayāt

General meaning: We meditate on that most adored Supreme Lord, the creator, whose effulgence (divine light) illumines all realms (physical, mental and spiritual). May this divine light illuminate our intellect.
